After a short prison stint, Paul Harrett faces the outside world, unresolved problems and community service at a nursing home. While there, the eighteen-year old finds an unlikely ally in old William who tells him the story of a Cowboy that faces himself in a showdown.  Haunted by the image of the dying Cowboy, Paul's own confused identity comes into focus under the vast New Mexican sky.
